Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Virtual Reality is a world that is not real, but entirely computer created based on 3-dimensional platform. The virtual world can be viewed as to a second-life, where avatars do the kind of stuff real people do in real life. Second Life is a multi user virtual environment, a computer program that lets online users construct settings and hang out with them, using video-game-like characters called avatars (Saki Knafo). Second life becomes a reality, but there are some Pros and Cons of it.

Pros:
  • More control: virtual worlds are far better than reality because in VR user are the controller.
  • Education: virtual reality advantages to train people in various fields, such as in military, education and health care. It adds the more dimensions in various fields and a better vehicle for cognitive learning due to the extent of information, low cost, and convenience (Guy Posey).
  • Creating Connections: virtual reality provides the ventures to communicate with the people all round the world and get connected with them.

Cons:
  • Expense: virtual technology is not cheap and it's not possible for everyone to afford it. Those who are unfortunate to afford this technology will be left out of the second life experience.
  • Worthless Feeling: the users of virtual world feel worthless and that is why they escape the real world to join second life.
  • Addict in the virtual world: users get addicted to the virtual world because second life makes them feel worthy.

The future of the virtual world will contain more than just a headsets and game controllers; it will be much more physical. Be able to travel on the moon or Mars, and the avatar will get to experience visual sense.

  1. I really like your blog post and I never considered the possibility of users getting addicted to the virtual world. I always found VR to be cool and never considered that possibility before.
